James Iha is aware of a factor or two in regards to the ’90s. In truth, the guitarist was in one of many eras greatest bands, Smashing Pumpkins, because the period performed out. Now Iha is getting an opportunity to revisit the ’90s by taking over the function of composer for the upcoming Netflix revival That ’90s Present.
Whereas Iha may have his imprint on the sequence’ music, the theme tune from That ’70s Present will likely be tailored to suit the period through which That ’90s Present is ready. Per Variety, showrunner Gregg Mettler finally selected a revamped model of “Within the Metropolis,” the Massive Star tune that was recorded by Cheap Trick because the theme for the unique sequence. Mettler himself organized a brand new model of the tune along with his daughter on the demo’s vocals earlier than turning it over to Iha. And from there, Iha referred to as in Brett Anderson, the previous vocalist for The Donnas, to offer the voice for the brand new model of the theme.
“I really like all of the music from the 90s, all of the genres, and we attempt our greatest to weave all of them into the present,” Mettler advised Selection. “And so, there’s one thing for everyone contained in the present.”
That ’90s Present has loads of ties to the unique sequence, with Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna’s (Laura Prepon) 15-year-old daughter Leia (Callie Haverda) coming to spend the summer time together with her grandparents (Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp), quickly assembly a few of the neighbor children and forging new bonds in a pre-iPhone period. Whereas Smith and Rupp will likely be a part of the brand new forged, most of the unique “teenagers” from That ’70s Present will likely be making visitor appearances.
The ten-episode run begins on Netflix on Jan. 19.
