Sage Suede – Chiflada
Available to stream and purchase as of today!
SAGE SUEDE has an extensive track record of supporting equal rights through his music and modeling. In 2022, his albums Renegade and Savage Summer achieved global recognition for pop, hip hop and reggaeton fusion styles.

At the end of the year, Sage wrote the girl power anthem “You Go Girl” with Dazmin D’leon and shortly afterwards, his nudes leaked in British tabloid The Daily Star to millions worldwide. Thereafter, his nudes went viral in English, Vietnamese and Croatian.
We have a lot of questions for Sage. Including a recent tweet that seems to indicate he was standing on broken glass during a photoshoot:
I stood on broken glass to take this thirst trap for you pic.twitter.com/tJ1IODwKKV

Are you okay? Why did you take this picture while standing on broken glass?
I took this picture at Package Menswear, where I will also be performing live music in a few days. When I first agreed to do the photoshoot with Dan, I didn’t realize that there had been an attempted break-in, or possibly a hate crime at the store.
Package is for queer & kink cultures to feel safe and fashionable, so it was shocking that someone had smashed the glass, but we weren’t phased. So I took my pants off, walked on the glass and posed for this pic against the broken wall. The message that we want to send is that homophobia is not stronger than booty pics. I’ll throw it back for a good cause.
What happened with the nudes and is there a criminal investigation?
There wasn’t a crime with the nudes. I actually met this hot Aussie chick online that was also a reporter in London and she wanted my nudes, so I let her publish them. It was surprising, but I don’t mind that they leaked and made a lot of people happy on Christmas. Besides, I was very naughty last year, so it was my only present other than being a “mazel top”.
Why did you make a song called Chiflada?
Chiflada is a mix of styles that I would describe as rave, tropical, trap and reggaeton. I wrote it about being with a hottie that is a little hardcore and knows how to keep a man. My inspiration comes from other latino pop artists that I enjoy listening to, like Jenn Morel, Maluca and Bad Bunny. My personality is also just that fierce IRL (in real life), so I am still writing all the lyrics for my female collabs about how powerful they are.
Doesn’t “chiflada” mean crazy? Is this meant to be about anyone in particular?
It is more like “Livin La Vida Loca” or “Callaíta”. Not in the melody or beats, but lyrically you are having fun being chiflada or chiflado and are just too cool to care what people think. I debated calling it “Chieflada” because of the 420 references and have a similar song in Portuguese called “Aceita Minha Putaria.”
What makes a Texan musician interested in reggaeton?
One of my favorite things to do is to go perreo and dance to the beats. I’ve got a little club rat in me. There are so many dope manifestations that sound great together and reggaeton has some of the best drums to swing your hips to, period.

Have you gotten into any trouble for your lyrics?
My harshest critics don’t take the time to understand what I’m actually saying. They act like I am “too chingón” in my lyrics on Chiflada and other releases, but they never understood the context.
Many of them get up in arms about me getting possession of drug paraphernalia during the song “Thief in Blue” on Renegade, because they don’t understand how civil forfeiture can often be unlawful, the true impact of over-policing or the health benefits of marijuana.

I’ve also had some drama about the song “Just Trippin” on Renegade, because people don’t know what a sugar baby is, or the particular sugar baby I’ve referenced that is still friends with me on Snapchat. There was too much grain alcohol at the party, which I only had for alchemy anyways, but I was moving out of state, so we were wilin’ with it. Just because people don’t understand street slang, doesn’t make it about something else.

What was it like to meet Dazmin D’leon? Didn’t you make a podcast with her called Dazzlin Stage Music?
Yeah, we made a podcast featuring global indie musicians to discuss the art form. She was awesome and honestly we vibed so well because we both like dank parties. I didn’t realize she came from such a prestigious musical family and we are even better friends now that we have performed together.
Is it safe to be queer in The South?
More than it used to be, but no matter where you live you will probably still experience some prejudice. When they smash the glass at queer stores and it becomes a photo wall, then they know that they don’t have any power over us.
When is your next release?
I have an English album, being prepared for late summer or early fall this year titled Dirty Blonde. Instead of 2 regular length albums, I’m planning on one mega release that is 13 pop and hip hop tracks.
Is there anything else we should know about?
Queer parties are still just as cool and inclusive as they have ever been. I’m excited about the performance at Package on March 16th, because it will be super hot. If you’re in Austin, then you should definitely come. The scene has been getting more corporate here, but this is a legit Austin show with weird local music.
There are literally dildos on the wall , so you don’t want to miss this awesome event:
