When it comes to showing up, Newman has done it again in his new song, “Middle Man.” Originally titled “Death of the Middle Man,” Newman’s song is metaphorical for seeking success, wealth, and peace through cutting out the middle man at all costs. Only then can one truly show up for loved ones and give their all in pursuit of dreams and breaking barriers oft referred to as the glass ceiling. Ultimately, the song is about taking fate into one’s own hands, something Newman learned growing up in Raleigh. One really had to strive for excellence in order to stand out in a talented and proud community.
While the production itself features Chanson and K, Le Maestro, influences of Jay-Z, Kanye, Pharrell, and Lil Wayne can be heard coming from Newman’s own rich experiences and deep vocals. According to Newman himself, the energy of the song comes from the beats. He kept an open-mind through the creative process which allowed the song to organically come together while putting an emphasis on the cinematic aspect with the director Griffin Hart Davis.
